One summer Sunday Lanny And I went for a ride on my motorcycle , a blue 1971 Kawasaki 500, the fastest bike made at the time with the exception of the Kawasaki 750. This was in the summer of 1974.We rode out the old Watermelon Road way back up in the country to the Yellow Creek Baptist church area and beyond. We stopped at the Lake Tuscaloosa spillway for a smoke . The bike was running very good and we hit 100MPH several times that day. I tried my damndest to scare him but he never said a word. When we got back to the 407&1/2 club he asked how fast we were going , I told him and his eyes got real wide and he said "That's the fastest I have ever been ." nondisclosed_email@example.com (kizziah)Tue, 18 May 2010 11:24:52 +0000 I remember Lannyhttps://braudelunaspataphysicalreviewboard.runboard.com/p261,from=rss#post261https://braudelunaspataphysicalreviewboard.runboard.com/p261,from=rss#post261When I was 16 I went to work after school at the BACHELOR'S III Restaurant on 15th street as a busboy. One of the service bartenders was Nolan Hatcher. I think this was about 1972. I also attended class at Tuscaloosa High school with Mitchell Cashion , I think it was a Humanities class. ( That was co-taught with a Mrs. Spann,,, 33/40's CHIEF METEOROLOGIST JAMES SPANNS mother) Nobody would talk much to Mitchell or me so we talked with each other(.Mostly I remember stealing a LIGHTNIN'HOPKINS record from the school) I very much looked forward to that class and seeing Mitchell, he was one of the only students that did not live at home with parents ,,,, remember THE WHITEHOUSE apt? He missed class a lot as he was rather sickly , or as I would imagine he was rather drunk the night before.!!! Lanny moved to an apt. building known as the" 407 and a half club "on University Blvd. between Sam Jacksons and some church that I accidently broke a window out of with an empty Haig& Haig bottle one night . I remember Lanny saving like crazy to have Craig Nutt craft him a custom table for the very expensive turntable he had ordered and I think Craig also did some wood exteriors for the speakers . Everything looked great,,, !!! We used to drink and smoke and listen to his jazz collection.,,,,,sometimes he would paint ,,, different folks were always dropping by and I have most likely met most of those on this forum at one time or another if you ever visited him ,,, I hung out there a lot. I remember staring for hours at his paintings stoned to the gills, jazz on the turntable and , the smell of smoke and incense in the air , porno mags open on the coffee table , snifters of B&B,,,,, Ivy giggling in the kitchen,,, After high school I moved to Birmingham and then over to Atlanta after a few years . I had opened a small restaurant in the downtown suburb of Decatur a really cool area too,,, anyway in about 1991 I got divorced , closed the cafe and returned to Tuscaloosa for a few years . I ran into Mitchell Cashion in that little bar on the strip and did not know that Lanny had died and then to find out he also lived in Atlanta not really very far from my cafe while I was there. !!! I hadn't seen Lanny in years and when I ran into Mitchell I had hopes to find my old friends again . I think Mitchell and I were both pretty drunk when we said our goodbyes that night . At least Mitchell was the same. That was good.nondisclosed_email@example.com (kizziah)Wed, 06 Jan 2010 15:04:22 +0000
